Why Clients Love Working with Me

I Keep it Human

As technology automates tasks and makes us more efficient, it can feel harder and harder to find real business relationships. I believe in simple and honest communication, and will take the time to listen to your needs. I strive to be as clear and transparent as possible throughout our business together, and will treat you like a person, not a data point.

I Believe in Flexibility

Your project and needs are unique, and no pre-packaged design service will meet you exactly where you are. Flexibility and customization are the core of my process and I will consider the details of your project every step of the way. I will work with you to achieve your vision, offering creative suggestions drawn from years of experience on hundreds of successful projects.

I Help from Start to Finish

My generalist skill set and problem solving attitude let me help you from concept to final production. I’m available through every part of the process to assist and problem solve. I’ll make sure you have the file types and sizes you need, or your images setup just how the printer wants them. You’ll have an expert creative with you from start to finish.

Don’t just take my word for it.

My Process

Quality, attention to detail, and communication are essential to my work. I talk with you to create a customized plan and vision for your project, drafting and refining it into something you love. While process can differ between projects, this is my standard design-to-production workflow.

1. Concept

Every project starts with an idea. I talk with you about your needs, vision, and likes and dislikes before I start creating. We also discuss budget for the project, scheduling, and any other important details. With a plan in place, I begin work on the first draft.

2. First Draft

The first deliverables you receive are the first drafts. These initial concepts let you see different directions we could take the project.  Drafts can include variations on a single theme, or could be entirely different approaches. It all depends on the project.

3. Refine

After you’ve settled on the direction you like, we talk about refinements you’d like to see to the drafts. I make those changes, and we repeat this process until things are exactly how you want them. You receive proofs for each iteration along the way.

4. Final Result

Once you’re completely satisfied with the final proof, I produce final files ready for use. Finals files vary by project, but can be high resolution files in a variety of file formats, files setup for a commercial printer, or polished templates ready to be used on future projects.

FAQ

What do graphic design services cost?

I have a standard flat rate of $110 per hour. This simple hourly billing approach gives the most flexibility. You’ll never need to worry about a requested change being beyond the scope of an initial quote, requiring a delay to negotiate a new price. Instead we simply continue at the same rate regardless of the ask.

I’m always happy to work within budgets and provide hour estimates before we get started. Though rare, if a project appears to be headed past the initial estimate after kickoff, I will provide a warning as soon as possible so we can discuss options.

If you’d prefer a flat rate quote, or other custom billing, please reach out and we can discuss that option.

How long does the process take?

Turn around times vary widely by project size and complexity. They’re also influenced by the speed proofs are reviewed on your end and feedback provided. I will work hard to meet your schedule, and have direct experience and comfortability with both tight deadlines and longer, more involved projects.

For small projects, turn around times can be a few days to a week, while larger projects generally take a few weeks to a month. I’m happy to estimate the turn around time for your project free of charge.

What apps/software do you use?

I primarily work within the Adobe creative suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and have also done extensive work in Power Point and Word. Other tools I have at least working knowledge of include Figma, Canva, Google Slides, Wix, WordPress, MailChimp, AfterEffects, and DaVinci Resolve.

My favorite way to learn new tools is on the job, so please reach out if you don’t see your tool of choice above. If it’s something I don’t have experience in, I can offer you a reduced rate in exchange for the learning opportunity.

Why should I hire an experienced designer when others are much cheaper?

Less-experienced designers can seem a lot cheaper than an expert on paper, but you’ll pay for it in other ways. It may take much longer to reach something you’re happy with, or you may have to settle for a less-than-professional result. There may be unforeseen technical issues, or missed communication and deadlines due to a lack of experience.

As an experienced designer, I’ve already faced hundreds of creative and technical challenges and learned how to overcome them on real projects. An hour of my time is worth much more than a less-experienced designer’s due to this history.

I can also provide expert creative direction, spot and correct subtle issues, and warn you about potential pitfalls either on the technical or creative side before they become a problem. You’ll end up with a professional look you love that meets all technical specifications — including some you may not have known to ask about in the first place — all in less time than it would take from a less-experienced designer.
